Today I'm releasing version 8.1 of my eBay fee calculator which uses the new eBay fee rates as of April 19, 2011. To make sure you're viewing the latest version hold SHIFT and press Reload in your web browser. Here's what's new in this version.

Starting April 19th 2011, the fees for Non-Store owners selling in Auction Style Format will be changing to the following:

Buy It Now Price Buy It Now Fees

$10.00 - $24.99 FREE*
$25.00 - $49.99 FREE*
$50.00 or more FREE*
Selling Price Final Value Fee
Item not sold No Fee
$0.01 and above 9% of item price + 9% of S&H ($100 cap)

*Up to 50 each month

So let's take a closer look at this change. If you are a Non-Store owner and you are selling in Auction Style Format you will be able to list 50 items for free each month. These items will not have any Insertion Fees at all no matter the starting price. eBay will also allow you to add Buy It Now to these items for free. However, after these 50 free items, your Insertion Fees and Buy It Now Fees will be the same as what eBay Store owners pay now (see current fees). Your Final Value Fee for any item sold in Auction Style Format is now 9% of total sale amount, with a maximum fee of $100. eBay defines the total sale amount as:

"the cost of the item, shipping, and any other fees a seller may charge (for example engraving or gift wrapping), excluding any sales tax."

Whether you add the item price and the S&H amount together and then multiply it by 9% or multiply the item price by 9% and the S&H amount by 9% and then add the two together it comes out to be the same. So another way of saying this is that your Final Value Fees wil now be 9% of your item price plus 9% of your Shipping & Handling amount. Because your fees are now a percentage of your Shipping & Handling amount, it stands to reason that the lower your S&H is the lower fees you will pay. If you wanted to pay the lowest Final Value Fees possible you would have to offer free shipping.

eBay is also increasing the maximum Final Value Fee from $50 to $100.

Before your Final Value Fees would max out if you sold a $555.55 item. Any item you sold that was over $555.55 would be charged the maximum $50 fee. Now if your item price and S&H combined add up to $1,111.11 you will pay the maximum fee of $100. Any item you sell with free shipping that is over $1,111.11 would be charged the maximum $100 fee.

Remember, the above mentioned changes only apply to Non-Store owners selling in Auction Style Format. If you own an eBay Store or if you sell exclusively in Fixed Price Format your fees will not be changing on April 19th.

eBay is planning another fee change on July 6, 2011. When the time comes I will update the calculator to account for that change as well.

Thank you for the updated calculator! Just wanted to note that top seller discount does not apply to the portion of final value fee charged on shipping.

  8. LaurieK says:

Your calculator is not figuring a FVF on the shipping for those that don't have a store.

    • Ryan Olbe says:

It is. You just have to instruct the calculator that you're creating an "Auction Style" listing by filling in both an Opening and Closing Price. If you just fill in a Closing Price and leave Opening Price blank (or zero) the calculator will use Fixed Price Format fees, which are not affected by shipping. Try this...

      1. Fill in 100 as your Opening Price
      2. Fill in 100 as your Closing Price
      3. Fill in 100 as your S&H Charged

Your Total eBay Fees show as $18, which is 9% of the Closing Price ($9) plus 9% of the S&H ($9). If Opening Price is left blank, the calculator will use the "Fixed Price Format" fee structure which would cause your fees to be $9.50.
